September - May Wednesdays (negotiable) 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. once a month Alternate weeks 1 hr conference call 9:30-10:30 a.m. Wednesdays 10 hours/week clinical chaplain visits in the field weekly. Students will meet for 8 hours, once a month:
09:00am Seminars in grief dynamics, communication, conflict management, etc.
10:00am Verbatim Conference: Students will bring in all VITAS documentation of a visit as well as the CPE format for reflection theologically, psychologically, pastoral planning, chaplain learning issues, etc.
11:00am Hospice Specific Seminars: bioethics, access, bereavement, etc.
12:00pm Lunch
01:00pm Verbatim Conference
02:00pm Interpersonal Group: Focusing upon relationships, connections, disconnects, etc.
03:00pm Verbatim Conference
04:00pm Spiritual Assessment and Intervention: Practical Theology
Additionally three days of orientation at the site will be required to learn the VITAS Plan of Care and following Illuminating VITAS. Intervening Wednesdays. Students will share two verbatim conferences by conference call from 9:30-10:30 am. Students must have internet access and an (800) number will be provided for all calls.

Tuition for a unit of CPE is $500 for individuals ($700 for institutions or seminaries). In addition, there is a non-refundable application fee is $35. Students are reimbursed for mileage in visiting hospice patients and their families. Residents enjoy employee benefits, including access to healthcare and a month of paid vacation

The ACPE Supervisor for this unit is Karen Morrow, MDiv, is an endorsed chaplain with the United Methodist Church who has worked in campus ministries, hospitals and hospices. Her master of divinity is from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC. She is a certified ACPE supervisor who has been a leader with the Racial Ethnic Multicultural network. Her work appears in their book, Theologies from REM’s Women of Color.
