The Broward
County office of VITAS is located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida with an
average daily census above 1,200 patients. Clinical settings include
private homes, nursing homes, assisted living facilities and inpatient
units within local hospitals. Broward County is religiously and culturally
diverse. This includes European Americans, Latin Americans, African Americans and Caribbean Americans.
Although a large portion of patients and families are Protestant
or Roman Catholic, approximately 33% are Jewish. Patients also include Muslims,
Buddhists, Hindus and Native Americans. This community is rich with art and cultural
activities.

The
Rev. Misti M. Johnson is certified by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education Inc. as a CPE Supervisor. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology prior to receiving a Master’s of Divinity degree at Lancaster Theological Seminary in Lancaster, PA. She is ordained as a United Church of Christ pastor who specialized in chaplaincy. Misti joined VITAS Healthcare Corporation with experience in a vast number of clinical settings including hospice, trauma medicine, pediatric
medicine, psychiatry and Veterans’ health care and even prison ministry.
